Initially I was drawn to Let Me Run because I saw it as a way to introduce running and exercise to boys in elementary and middle school. As I soon found out, there was so much more to it than just running. The whole approach of changing the culture that we stress to boys and teaching them more of what it is to be a person who respects others and themselves without the pressure of "suck it up and be a man." It is gratifying to see the boys rally around each other through positive reinforcement and encouragement. I believe Let Me Run can have a major impact on what we teach boys and how we change the approach of what it really means to be a man.
I serve on the Board and as the Race Director for the Spring and Fall Greater Charlotte Let Me Run 5Ks.
I hope that Let Me Run continues to grow not only in the US but beyond. I hope that we can work with other organizations with similar goals to make a major impact on the way we view young people and the way they view the world.
