Frequently Asked Questions

What is Let Me Run?

Let Me Run is a nonprofit organization that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. Through a curriculum-based running program, we encourage emotional expression, healthy relationships, and positive character development—preparing boys for a lifetime of wellness and belonging.

What does the Board of Directors do?

Our Board of Directors provides vision, leadership, and guidance to help Let Me Run grow and thrive. Board members serve as champions for our mission, bringing their expertise, connections, and energy to help boys discover the power of being themselves.

What qualities or experience are you looking for in board members?

We’re looking for people who believe in the power of boys to change the world—starting with themselves. We welcome individuals with diverse experiences and perspectives, especially those with skills in fundraising, finance, law, marketing, education, and youth development. Most of all, we value enthusiasm, integrity, and heart.

What is the time commitment for board members?

Board members typically serve a three-year term, renewable once. You can expect to attend six board meetings each year, participate on a committee or working group, and support events and outreach. On average, board service requires about 4–6 hours per month—and plenty of inspiration along the way.

Are board members expected to make a financial contribution?

Yes. Every board member is asked to make Let Me Run a philanthropic priority through an annual personal gift that is meaningful to them, and to help inspire others to give. Our goal is 100% participation from our board, showing our shared commitment to the boys we serve, and at least $5,000 in combined personal and raised contributions per board member.

How are new board members selected?

Interested individuals start by completing a brief Board Interest Form. Our Nominating Committee reviews submissions and invites selected candidates to complete a more detailed application and participate in an interview. Final recommendations are then presented to the full board for approval.

Do I need to have previous nonprofit board experience?

Not at all. We welcome first-time board members who are ready to learn and lead. What matters most is your commitment to our mission and your willingness to use your skills and voice to make a difference.

Where are the board meetings held?

Board meetings are typically held virtually or in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Let Me Run’s national office is based. Occasionally, we gather in person for planning sessions or special events that celebrate our impact.

How can I express interest in joining the board?

We’d love to hear from you! Simply complete our online Board Member Interest Form to start the process. Once received, a member of our team will be in touch with next steps.

Are there other ways to get involved if I’m not ready to join the board?

Absolutely! You can volunteer with a local team, serve on a committee, sponsor a race, or support Let Me Run with a donation. Every role helps us reach more boys and build communities of belonging. Visit our Get Involved page to learn more.
