Why Let Me Run?

As a mom of a pre-teen boy, I know first-hand there just aren't programs out there that teach boys the valuable socio-emotional tools that they need to become men that can process their feelings in a healthy, constructive way. Let Me Run does just that. Utilizing running as a tool, Coaches teach boys discipline and all the constructive ways to express emotions. As a mom I also appreciate the commitment of 6-7 week seasons so that children can experience a variety of different activities during their childhood. As a coach myself, I know that bodies that know how to express anger or sadness with a vehicle such as running do not become bodies that hurt others and that is so important with the rise in violence among young people. That is why when I had the opportunity to help Let Me Run, I said, "Yes!"

What is your role in Let Me Run?

My role in Let Me Run is exciting because it reflects my unique set of skills I have developed over the last 15 years of working in the nonprofit space. I am the National Grants Manager & Kansas City Program Coordinator. With this dual role, I am able to build relationships with donors, funders, and partners on behalf of Let Me Run to raise funds to further the mission as well as have provide boots-on-the-ground support to Kansas City's coaches and teams.

What do you hope for Let Me Run boys?

I hope that Let Me Run Boys get to learn through doing with the program and that they get to lay down their challenges through their feet with running and powerful mentorship with their coaches.
