Running with Charlie
February 17, 2023 by Let Me Run National
This month, we had the opportunity to catch up with Charlie and his mom, Strat, about his experience with Let Me Run. Charlie started Let Me Run as a way to stay in shape between soccer seasons and so that he could stay in touch with friends that were no longer in his class. But both Charlie and Strat have come to realize the program provides so many benefits.
As a middle school teacher, Strat believes in the power of Character Education and values having a healthy lifestyle. She told us that "I love that the program gets boys moving, but also gives them a place to express themselves and learn more about who they are in a safe environment." Strat has seen Charlie gain confidence, communication skills, and the ability to express his feeling - all while having fun with his friends. She’s also been amazed to see that his strength and endurance as a runner has improved, and looks forward to seeing his continued growth.
But we didn’t just hear from Strat – Charlie chimed in too! His favorite part of the program is running on the trails and getting to hang out with his friends. He hopes to build character and gain confidence to talk to people, while becoming a stronger runner. When asked if he would recommend the program, he told us “I would recommend Let Me Run to friends, because the running gets your crazies out, you make new friends, and you learn to be a better person!”. We couldn’t agree more, Charlie!
And Charlie wanted to give a special shout-out to his coaches – Coach Don, Coach Kelly and Coach Brent – for the amazing job they do!
Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us, Strat and Charlie. We hope you have a wonderful spring season!
